Election Service Initiative
Democracy Needs People Willing to Serve
Free and fair elections do not happen automatically. Behind every polling place are trained citizens who check in voters, safeguard ballots, answer questions, and ensure the process runs smoothly from the first vote cast to the final ballot counted. But across the country, election officials are facing a growing shortage of poll workers—especially younger citizens willing to step forward and serve. When people answer that call, they do more than help run an election; they protect the integrity of our democracy and make it possible for every voter to participate with confidence. Will you be one of them?
WHAT IS A POLL WORKER?
Poll workers are the citizens responsible for making Election Day run smoothly and fairly. They help set up the polling place, check in voters, explain the voting process, assist individuals who may need help casting their ballot, and ensure that election rules are followed so every vote is counted properly. Throughout the day, poll workers help maintain an orderly, secure environment where voters can participate confidently. In many ways, they serve on the front lines of democracy—ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast their ballot and that the election process remains fair, transparent, and trustworthy.
