Keep State Elections Free from Government Overreach
Democracy works best when power is decentralized and elections remain in the hands of the people — not politicians in Washington.
One of the greatest strengths of the American system is that states run their own elections. That’s not a flaw in our democracy — it’s a safeguard. It prevents any one party, president, or federal agency from controlling the entire electoral process.
But today, we are seeing growing calls for increased federal involvement around elections and polling locations. That should concern every American.
History shows us that centralized control over elections is what authoritarian governments do. America chose a different path — one where local communities, state election officials, and citizens themselves help protect the integrity of the vote.
That matters because when elections become politicized or federalized, public trust erodes.
That’s why Country First believes elections should remain locally administered, transparent, and free from intimidation or political interference from Washington.
Why State-Run Elections Matter
- States running elections prevents one-party control over the entire system
- Local administration creates transparency and accountability closer to the people
- Federal interference in elections undermines trust and fuels division

One of the greatest strengths of American democracy is that states run their own elections. Decentralized elections make it harder for any one party, president, or federal agency to control the process. That system protects transparency, accountability, and public trust. But growing calls for greater federal involvement in elections and polling locations risk undermining that balance and fueling division. Free and fair elections depend on voters having confidence that elections are administered locally, lawfully, and without intimidation. Protecting the independence of state-run elections is not partisan — it is fundamental to preserving American democracy. |
