Day of Action Debrief

Our Days of Action exist for one simple reason: to equip and empower. To show you that action isn’t as scary or difficult as you might think. It’s a place to find the community and energy to stand for truth within your community - and the feedback we have overwhelmingly received is that they are working. We are making a difference on the issues that matter most, but we are also making a difference in the lives of everyday Americans who feel powerless to make a difference.

As Congress debates the federal budget, which will cut Medicaid funding by $698 billion and increase the deficit by $3.8 trillion, what are Senators doing to stand up to MAGA and defend our economy, our values, and our democracy?

Let’s be clear: eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse is common ground. But cutting services from Americans who rely on them to instead spend $45 million on a military parade is not fiscal responsibility. It’s policy failure. And it erodes public trust in our institutions, with long-term consequences for our democracy.
Posting on social media and making grand statements are great - but they only do so much. When the economy, the debt, Medicaid, SNAP, and so many more essential programs are on the line - we need more than statements we need real action to restore trust and defend our democracy.

So if you’re ready to keep action going, if you’re ready to keep making a difference, if you’re ready to be bold for democracy, here is how:

  1. Call the Congressional Switchboard: (202) 224-3121 OR Click Here to search by member and call your Senators
    • Finished? You can call and request to speak to...
      • Rand Paul (KY) (202) 224-4343
      • Roger Wicker (MS) (202) 224-6253
      • Ron Johnson (WI) (202) 224-5323
      • Lindsey Graham (SC) (202) 224-5972
      • Thom Tillis (NC) (202) 224-6342
  2. Tell them exactly how you feel - tell them how frustrated you are, and demand to know what they are actually doing (not just saying) to stand up for you. Or, you can use this script:
    • "Hi, I’m a volunteer with Country First, I know the Senator is very focused on cutting waste, fraud, and abuse. And I agree - it is common sense. So can the Senator justify how $45 million for a parade isn’t abusing funds, when that money could have put towards the VA to ensure our veterans get the care they deserve? Or to bolster family support programs within the military? How is this a good use of money? ”

Hopefully, after making these calls, you'll have a better idea of how to take action at home to either support your Senators' efforts, or demand they do more.
